Skin diseases

A graphic presentation of the study shows anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects of xanthones in mangosteen through regulation of the nuclear factor, which is responsible for allergic inflammation in atopic dermatitis.

Mangosteen rind extract (250 mg/kg per day) was administrated to mice, a model for human atopic dermatitis, for 6 weeks to evaluate its preventive effects on atopic dermatitis.

The graph shows the effects of mangosteen rind extract on various immune cell functions.Oral administration of mangosteen rind extract prevented the increase of clinical skin severity scores, plasma total immunoglobulin E levels, scratching behavior, transepidermal water loss and epidermal hyperplasia in mice. No adverse effects were noted.
