The effects of 4 different xanthones (mangosteen antioxidants) on the growth of cancer

The diagrams show the effects of 4 different xanthones (mangosteen antioxidants) on the growth of cancer cells in laboratory conditions in 96 hours.

  • The ordinate (vertical line) shows the number of cancer cells x 10,000.
  • The abscissa (horizontal line) shows the time of growth of cancer calls in hours.

The subject of the study were human cancer cells transferred to laboratory conditions.
Each of the 4 diagrams shows 3 lines
The top lines with full circles show the cancer cell control group, which had no added antioxidants, and exhibit very fast growth of cancer cells.
The middle lines with squares show how cancer cell growth is slowed down when mangosteen antioxidants are added in low concentrations.
In 3 of the 4 diagrams, the bottom lines with triangles show a significantly slowed and even stopped growth of cancer cells when a double concentration of mangosteen antioxidant is added to the cell culture.

Xanthones α, ß, and γ had a very strong effect, whereas antioxidants of a special group of ß xanthones had a very weak effect.
